Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

What is a doula?

A doula is a trained professional who provides emotional, physical, and informational support to pregnant women before, during, and after childbirth. Doulas do not provide medical care but focus on the emotional and psychological needs of the birthing person.

What services do you offer?

We offer a range of services including childbirth education, continuous labor support, postpartum support, and baby care guidance. My goal is to empower you and ensure that you have a positive birthing experience.

What is the Unmedicated Academy for Childbirth Education?

The Unmedicated Academy is a birth education resource focused on empowering moms to navigate physiological birth without medical interventions. It provides information, resources, and support to help women understand the birthing process, develop coping strategies for labor, and plan for a birth experience that aligns with their preferences. The academy's curriculum covers topics like physiological birth processes, coping skills, with an emphasis on knowing your options and developing advocacy to navigate hospital systems while prioritizing a natural birth experience.

How is a doula different from a midwife?

While both doulas and midwives provide support during childbirth, their roles are different. A midwife is a trained medical professional who manages the clinical aspects of childbirth, whereas a doula offers emotional support and advocacy throughout the birthing process.

When should I hire a doula?

It’s best to hire a doula during your pregnancy, ideally in the second trimester. This allows you to build a relationship with your doula and discuss your birth plan and preferences in detail.

Can my partner or support person attend the birth with me?

Yes, your partner or support person is encouraged to be involved in the birth process. A doula works alongside them, providing additional support and reassurance during labor.

What are your fees?

Our fees vary depending on the services provided, location, and experience. I offer a range of packages to fit different needs and budgets. Please contact for more specific information about our pricing.

How do I know if a doula is the right fit for me?

Not sure if I'm the doula for you? I recommend scheduling an initial consultation. This will give you a sense of my philosophy, experience, and personality. It’s important to find someone you feel comfortable with and who aligns with your birth preferences.

What should I expect from a doula during labor?

During labor, a doula will provide continuous emotional and physical support, help facilitate communication with medical staff, assist with comfort measures (like breathing techniques, positioning, and massage), and ensure you feel empowered in your birthing choices.

Do you provide postpartum support?

Yes, I offer postpartum services to help you transition into life with your new baby. This may include assistance with infant care, breastfeeding support, and resources for emotional wellbeing.
